Training By Certified Instructors

Someone once wrote that there are four stages of soaring:

    Learning to Operate a Glider
    Local Soaring
    Cross Country Soaring
    Contest and Record Soaring

NCSA instruction program is aimed at teaching people to operate a glider, and to provide the basic knowledge for local soaring. Instruction is provided at no cost, however, there are equipment rental fees for the tow plane and the glider used during instruction.

The club holds cross country soaring courses from time to time and has pilots who are qualified to work with people wanting advanced soaring instruction. This is not part of the NCSA training program, per se, but is available to those desiring such training.

If you are a rated glider pilot, please bring your pilot certificate and logbook for the instructor's review. The club's insurance policy requires that each member be checked out in each aircraft that they fly. An instructor will document each checkout in your logbook should it be needed for insurance purposes.

All of our instructors are volunteers. They donate their time to come out and provide free instruction for our members. Each of them holds a commercial pilot certificate with a glider rating and also has earned a flight instructor certificate with a glider rating. The flight instructor certificate is renewed every two years by taking a refresher course or flight test. To minimize the burden on any instructor, we schedule instructors for each Saturday and Sunday according to their availability.
