The Soaring Society of America has established a series of badges to recognize members' progress through local soaring and preparation for cross country soaring. The SSA Instructors in the club administer these badges.

A is awarded for soloing a glider.

B is awarded for soaring 30 minutes after release from a 2000' tow.

C is awarded for soaring one hour after release from a 2000' tow and receiving advanced instruction.

Bronze is awarded for two 2 hour flights, advanced instruction, and passing a written test on the basics of cross country soaring.

The Federation Aeronautique Internationale has established a series of badges that recognize soaring accomplishments on a worldwide basis. These are the Silver, Gold, and Diamond badges. You can learn more about them on the SSA website or asking one of the more experienced members. The club has a barograph available for use in documenting badge flights.

There are other awards available for more advanced accomplishments, also.
