Lesson Plans
Lesson Plans PDF Soaring is typically done on sunny days and in the summer it gets HOT in North Carolina. Obviously, this will vary depending on the time of year. Here is a list of essential equipment to bring to the airport when you are having a lesson.

    Lesson Plans
Water
Dehydration is a real problem in soaring. Bring plenty of water. And bring a bottle to carry with you in the sailplane. Dehydration causes a deterioration of judgement and increases reaction times. There is some evidence that dehydration is a major factor in most sailplane accidents. So bring plenty of water!

Sunscreen
In the summer it is easy to get sunburned out in the open. So bring sunscreen as appropriate.

Hat
without a button on top. You will need the protection from the sun. Most soaring pilots prefer tennis hats. But you will also see a variety of hats at the airport. (When encountering turbulence, your head may occasionally hit the canopy. A button will hurt your head and may break the canopy.)

Logbook
Your instructor is legally required to record flight instruction in your logbook, so don't forget to bring it. If you do not have one, they are available from the club at the airport.

Lunch
Soaring is time consuming and your help will be needed to launch and retrieve other sailplanes, the same as other students will do for you when you are flying. Feel free to bring something to eat during the day.

OTHER

Dinner
Often a group will get together and eat dinner after flying. You are encouraged to join that group. Just ask around and see who is going and where.
